“Pressed during the news conference about the possibility of life on Gliese 581g, Dr. Vogt protested that he was an astronomer, not a biologist. Then he relented, saying that, speaking strictly personally, he believed that “the chances of life on this planet are almost 100 percent.’”
Now all we have to do is build a space probe capable of speeding up to (and slowing down from) light speed, wait 20 years for it to get there, wait another 20 years for its return, and then debate for another 5 years if there is really life there, with the answer most likely being a resounding “no.” I predict we’ll know more about Gliese 581g by at least 2770. In the mean time, back to Earth. :(
“WASHINGTON — House Republicans on Thursday will issue a legislative blueprint called “A Pledge to America” that they hope will catapult them to a majority in the November elections. Its goals include a permanent extension of all of the Bush-era tax cuts, repeal of the newly enacted health care law, a cap on discretionary federal spending, and an end to government control of the mortgage giants Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.”

Essentially, Republicans wan’t to erase the past 2 years from history. Now they are just ignoring proven facts and supposedly learned lessons.
They fail to recognized that the only way to plow ahead into the future is forward.
The politicians (particularly the republicans) in power are screwing their own country. They are not thinking in the long term at all. When the US loses its seat as #1 influence in world affairs, it’s going to be because of the campaigns of these short-sited politicians, who are rejecting the lessons learned after the past 10 years of America’s refusal to adapt to the new world of the 21st century.
The Republicans in government claim they care about Americans. They shoot out flashy slogans promising “permanent extensions to tax cuts” and use fear-tactics to delay much-needed progress (“The democrat’s health care bill will create death panels!,” “Obama is a communist nazi Kenyan Muslim!,” and many more).
Well here’s some news, aimed at you short sited fools:
We owe China 13 trillion dollars. Somebody’s has got to pay for that, and it shouldn’t be our great great great great grand children. There is no reason that they should be slaves to the Chinese.
Furthermore, why shouldn’t the most privileged and comfortable people in the United States (and the world), pay more back to the society that allowed them to prosper? They should not only because they already have more money than most people can even dream of, but because they owe their success to our system, the one that allowed them to live their dreams. They definitely owe much more than the other 98% of Americans, who are barely breaking even.
Unlike what they claim, the Republicans in power do not stand for the good of the American people and the nation. They are not interested in adapting to the demands of the 21st century’s global economy, nor maintaining freedom and justice for all. Instead of working to secure America’s place in the coming century and beyond, the Republicans are working to secure their victory in the coming 2010 midterm elections and the election in 2012. They have ceased to work for the United States as a whole, lost site of the future and reality, and therefore, they have abandoned it.
